Cambodia: Acleda rolls-out QR code

The passengers of city buses and water taxi services can now pay for bus and ferry tickets via Acleda’s QR Code using their mobile phones said Sok Sophea, senior vice president and head of marketing of Acleda Bank.

Speaking during the official kick-off on Saturday, Mrs Sophea said both the general public and Acleda customers can now settle their ticket purchases on public buses and ferries with the Acleda QR Code by using the fintech application, Acleda Unity Toan Chet.

Ms Sophea said the official kick off was made possible following a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Acleda Bank Plc, and the Phnom Penh Municipality last month.

“This is our latest technology through the Acleda QR Code and this cuts the waiting time and the queue for payment,” Ms Sophea said.

Ms. Sophea said Acleda’s fintech app is a digital mobile banking product that runs on Android and iOS, used for payments and purchases of all kinds of goods and products anywhere. She said currently there are 650,000 users and 13,000 partners registered in the App.

Ean Sokhim, governor of Phnom Penh City Bus Authority, said that the collaboration with the Acleda Bank is to help the people who use public buses to have a choice for payment.

“Using the QR Code is convenient to manage revenues, passenger’s data, and provides the city bus and ferry passengers with the most convenient means for payment. It helps facilitate their daily commute without any delay. They can travel comfortably, safely and this may reduce traffic jam,” Mr Sokhim said.
