ASEAN Trade Fair to Promote Food and Beverage Products from Member Countries
(KPL) Around 100 companies from ASEAN Member States are expected to showcase their food and beverage products at the ASEAN Trade Fair 2017 to be held in Seoul, R. Korea on Oct 25-28.
The fair will be organised by the ASEAN-Korea Centre at COEX under the theme “Taste the Happiness”, according to a source from the ASEAN-Korea Centre.
Ten each food and beverage companies from ASEAN will showcase a wide selection of their products and explore business opportunities with Korean partners.
Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre, Mr Kim Young-sun noted that “There is a growing interest among the Korean consumers and buyers in unique and high-quality food and beverage products from ASEAN. Despite the demand, a variety of ASEAN products have not been introduced to the Korean market yet. I hope the ASEAN Trade Fair will offer a platform not only for the Korean buyers to explore business opportunities with ASEAN partners but also for the general public to enjoy and better understand ASEAN through food”.
Products to be exhibited include: products made with Kalamansi, a type of lime from the Philippines, which is popular for detox in Korea; processed goods such as jam, juice, and snacks made with tropical fruits like Mango, Durian, Papaya and pineapple; coconut oil, snacks and juice that are good for diet; packaged easy-to-cook meals such as Tom Yam Kung and Pho; organic coffees such as Robusta and Arabica; and unique and exotic seasonings.
Korean buyers who are interested in ASEAN food and beverage products will have the opportunity to meet with ASEAN companies during the exhibition period.
Last year, over 1,500 meetings were conducted and contracts worth over US$ 2 million were signed.
This year, promising ASEAN companies that were carefully selected by the government of each ASEAN Member State will join the event.
In conjunction with the fair, a trade facilitation seminar for the representatives of the participating ASEAN companies will be held on October 24.
The seminar aims to enable the representatives to gain knowledge on the latest development of Korean food industry and build business network with Korean counterparts.
At the seminar, Korean experts will give presentations on the themes of distribution system, sourcing trend, safety control policy for imported foods, technology trends, and regulations for food packaging in Korea.
The representatives will, in turn, give briefings on recent trends in the food industries of their respective countries to Korean companies.
Furthermore, there is a scheduled visit to Daesang Cheon-an Food Plant and CJ Freshway I-cheon Distribution Factory.
The ASEAN Trade Fair 2017 will be held as part of the Food Week Korea 2017, the largest international food exhibition in Korea.
The ASEAN-Korea Centre has been participating in the exhibition since 2009 with an aim to introduce a wide range of ASEAN competitive products to Korean market.
