BI Estimates Indonesia Balance of Payments in 2017 at 7bn Dollars

TEMPO.COJakarta – Bank Indonesia Governor Agus Martowardojo estimates that Indonesia`s balance of payments (NPI) in 2017 stands at around seven billion US dollars.

The former finance minister explained that the figure is lower compared to last year’s surplus of 12 billion US dollars.

A 12 billion US dollars surplus in 2016 was possible thanks to the tax amnesty program that allows huge inflow of funds into the capital market.

“In general, the seven billion US dollar surplus is decent in many ways because our capital and financial accounts are good,” Agus said.

The NPI is a statistic that records economic transactions between Indonesian residents and non-residents in a particular period.

The NPI include the current account balance (goods, services, income) and the capital account and financial account.
