Indonesia: Govt Pushes for Higher Tax Revenues in H – 2
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati is optimistic to meet this year’s tax revenue target, provided there are additional efforts in the second semester. Tax revenue i growth in the first half of 2017 reached 12.4 percent, year-on-year.
“We continue to work in the second half, by going through state revenue sources,” he said, last weekend.
Sri asked the Tax Directorate General to identify sectors with improving commodity prices and business climate, to boost the potential of taxes deposited.
“We will do that carefully so that the economic growth is not disturbed,” said the former managing director of the World Bank.
The Tax DG reported that tax revenue in January to July 2017 was only Rp601.1 trillion, just 46.8 percent of this year’s target of Rp1,283.57 trillion as set out in the 2017 Amended State Budget.
The target has been reduced byRp 30 trillion based on the agreement of the House of Representatives’ (DPR) Budgetary Board and the government.
The Tax Dg spokesman Hestu Yoga Saksama said that tax revenues will increase in November and December, in accordance with the same cycles in previous years.
