Brunei: Trade balance stands at BND425.5 million in May 2017
TOTAL Trade increased by 23.3 per cent year-on-year to BND1,112.9 million; consisting of exports (BND769.2 million) and imports (BND343.7 million), compared to BND902.6 million in May 2016. Trade balance increased by 55.2 per cent year-on-year to BND425.5 million from BND274.2 million in May 2016.
Exports for May 2017 increased by 30.7 per cent year-on-year from BND588.4 million (May 2016) to BND769.2 million (May 2017).
Exports of Mineral Fuels recorded the highest contribution of 87.7 per cent of total exports, comprising Crude Oil (BND295.4 million) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) (BND378.9 million).
In May 2017, imports of goods increased by 9.4 per cent year-on-year from BND314.2 million (May 2016) to BND343.7 million.
Meanwhile, the top five contributions of imports by commodity were Manufactured Goods (28.2 per cent), Machinery and Transport Equipment (26.2 per cent), Food (16.5 per cent), Miscellaneous Manufactured Articles (10.9 per cent) and Mineral Fuels (8.4 per cent).
The highest exports market was to Japan with 21.8 per cent of total exports, followed by Malaysia (19.3 per cent), Singapore (14.5 per cent), Thailand (11.1 per cent) and others.
Imports of Intermediate Goods comprises 60.0 per cent of the total imports.
This was followed by imports of Capital Goods (30.4 per cent) and Consumption Goods (9.6 per cent).
The highest imports came from China with 23.1 per cent of total imports, followed by Malaysia (21.6 per cent), Singapore (17.6 per cent), USA (7.3 per cent) and others.
