Cambodian passport still among the least travel-friendly
The Cambodian passport remains to be the among the least travel-friendly travel documents in the world.
The Henley Passport Index released by Henley & Partners two days ago ranked Cambodia 88th globally. Henley & Partners is a London-based global citizenship and residency advisory firm. The previous survey released by the same firm a few months ago also put the Kingdom in the same spot.
Cambodia obtained a score of 54, which means travellers from the Kingdom can travel to 54 countries without the need to apply for a visa.
This is generally a bad news for Cambodians who want to travel abroad for tourism or business.
In addition to other Asean countries, Cambodians can travel visa-free or with visa on arrival to 44 other countries, mostly in Africa, Oceania, South America and Central America. The developed countries in Europe and North America are still out of reach for those who cannot pass the stringent admittance process implemented by the embassies or consular offices of those countries.
Data from International Air Transport Association and research from Henley & Partners serve as the basis for the rankings, which are released every three months.
In Southeast Asia, the Singaporean passport is the most travel-friendly, with citizens of that country able to visit 190 countries and territories without a visa. Singapore is ranked second globally with a score of 190. This is not surprising considering that Singapore is also the richest and most-developed country in the region.
Japan topped the rankings, with its citizens enjoying visa-free privileges when visiting 191 countries and territories. Rounding up the top 10 (in order) are Germany, South Korea, Finland, Italy, Denmark, Luxembourg, Spain and France.
Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan are at the bottom of the rankings, having visa-free access to 29, 28 and 26 countries respectively.
