The CDC is aiming to increase the knowledge of the officials before they provide input on the implementation of the IDP over the past five years. The CDC will then compile a report.
Nut Unvoanra, deputy secretary-general of the CDC’s Cambodia Investment Board, said monitoring and evaluating economic development is an important process for the report. He said ministry officials must understand the policies before providing input.
“Coordination and cooperation are a necessity for all stakeholders, including institutions, the private sector and development partners,” Mr Unvoanra said. “Coordination with state institutions on the development of the industrial sector is particularly necessary.”
The IDP was launched by the government in August 2015 and identified necessities and urgencies crucial to economic growth.
The IDP serves as a guide to promote the Kingdom’s industrial development by helping maintain sustainable and inclusive growth through diversification, competitiveness and productivity.
The IDP aims to contribute to achieving the country’s vision of becoming an upper-middle income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050.
The CDC held the workshop in conjunction with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation and South Korea. It was attended by participants from the IDP secretariat, the CDC and various ministry officials and provincial representatives.
Sok Narin, country representative of UNIDO, said the workshop served as a starting point for officials who are tasked with providing information and data to improve the IDP.
“Monitoring and evaluating allow us to make decisions or [make] timely adjustments,” Mr Narin said. “The process will provide assessments on each project to make better results.”
