Go-Jek still waits for accreditation from Philippine government

Indonesia’s ride-hailing app Go-Jek has said it would wait for the issuance of accreditation from the Philippine government before operating in the country.

Nila Marita, Go-Jek chief of corporate affairs, said in Jakarta on Monday that the company would abide by the regulations of the Philippines.

“We will first focus on securing accreditation in the Philippines before expanding business,” she said on Monday as reported by kontan.co.id.

Previously, Martin B. Delgra III, head of the Philippines Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) — a government body that issues accreditation for transport companies, said Go-Jek registered too late with the board to enter the country.

Go-Jek sent its application on Aug. 13, whereas the moratorium was effective starting from Aug. 9.

Go-Jek kicked off its full operation in Vietnam on Sept. 12, the first step in the company’s plan to expand into Southeast Asia.

In Vietnam, Go-Jek is collaborating with a local team led by digital entrepreneur Nguyen Vu Duc under the brand Go-Viet. Go-Viet launched a pilot operation on Aug. 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, which is home to around 3 million people.

The Indonesian startup unicorn said it also looked into Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand but was experiencing difficulties in entering each of these countries. (nor/bbn)
