Malaysia: Manufacturing sector sales up 3.9% to RM68.5bil in March
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s manufacturing sales recorded a growth of 3.9% in March, rising to RM68.5bil compared with RM65.9bil a year ago.
The Statistics Department said on Thursday the higher sales value was due to the increase in electrical and electronic products (10.5%); food, beverages and tobacco products (5.0%) and wood, Furniture, Paper Products and Printing (3.5%).
Total employees engaged in the manufacturing sector in March 2018 was 1,068,116 persons. This was an increase of 2.1% or 22,076 persons as compared to 1,046,040 persons in March 2017.
Salaries and wages paid rose 11.9% (RM410.9mil) to record RM3.863bil. This saw an average salaries & wages per employee of RM3,617 in March 2018.
The department said that sales value per employee increased by 1.7% to RM64,103 from a year ago.
