Laos: Businesses tap into local talent at job fair
The Job Fair 2018 kicked off in Vientiane on Friday evening, featuring 250 booths set up by governnment and private organisations advertising work opportunities.
The fair is taking place at the Lao International Trade Exhibition and Convention Centre (Lao-ITECC), with the opening attended by Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Dr Khampheng Saysompheng, Director of the Vientiane Department of Labour and Social Welfare, Ms Lamphoy Syakkhachan, Vientiane Vice Mayor Mr Sihoun Sitthileuxay, and other officials.
The fair is scheduled to run from May 4-8. It is the city’s second Job Fair and is organised by the Vientiane Department of Labour and Social Welfare of Vientiane and Lao World Public Co., Ltd.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms Lamphoy said the 250 booths included 55 that were registering job applicants and 195 that were selling goods.
“We are expecting 3,200 students and jobseekers to register for work during the event,” she said.
Mr Sihoun said “This job fair is important for promoting jobs and providing information to job seekers. It is an excellent opportunity for job hunters to meet potential employers and register their interest.”
The job fair enables businesses, employees, employers and job seekers to meet up and discuss positions available, with people able to register for vacancies.
It is a useful opportunity for private businesses and government bodies wanting to hire new employees.
The job fair allows participants to discuss developments in the job market, job market needs, and challenging issues in meeting these requirements.
The event also promotes training opportunities for workers seeking jobs both in Laos and in other countries.
Other activities include a labour development photo exhibition and a display of books and other items. There are also question-and-answer sessions on the development of the job market and a skills competition for students organised by various institutes.
