Indonesia: Foreign Investors Want to Build Battery Factory for Electric Bus

TEMPO.COJakarta – PT Mobil Anak Bangsa (MAB), a local producer of electric busses, is reviewing investors` offers from a number of countries. These investors have stated their interest to invest in Indonesia by building battery factories.

“We welcome investors’ plans because the existence of battery factories is a crucial issue behind the emergence of the electric buses we have developed,” MAB founder Gen. (Ret.) Moeldoko said at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Commercial Vehicle Expo (GIICOMVEC) 2018 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Thursday, March 1.

According to Moeldoko, they are reviewing prospective partnership offers from Shanghai China, Japan and Korean investors.

MAB Technical Director Bambang Tri Sasongko said they are now in the stage of prototype II production, which has applied the mechatronics system.

Bambang said the MAB electric bus will be mass-produced independently, involving Indonesia’s best, and utilizing more than 45% domestic components (TKDN).

The bus, he said, is designed to operate as an inner and inter-city transport vehicle that can also be used for ports’ transportation or for tourism needs.

“The bus is showcased to the public at the 2018 GIICOMVEC from March 1 to 4 at the JCC,” he said.
