Indonesia – New Rules: Imported Toys for Personal Collection Do Not Need SNI

TEMPO.COJakarta – The Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Trade, Directorate General of Customs and Excise, also Indonesian Standardization Body have agreed on the exception provision of Indonesian national standard rules (SNI) about the imported toys.

Director General of Small and Medium Industries (IKM) of the Ministry of Industry, Gati Wibawaningsih confirmed that the rule’s exclusion of imported toys is for the individuals. “There are two points of exception provision, which is the passenger luggage is maximum five pieces per person, by airplane,” said Gati in his written statement, on Tuesday, January 23. The second point is through the shipment with a maximum limit of three pieces per shipment for one recipient per 30 days. “Consumers are given a 30-day deadline to import toys through expedition services,” he said.

Director of International Customs and Inter-Agency Directorate General of Customs and Excise Robert L. Marbun said the mandatory imposition of SNI will apply if more than three items. According to Robert, the established rules are for personal items or not. “We do not define what the person is, used for what, the point is to clarify the article of this rule, if it is more than three or five, it must be SNI-certified,” he said.

Robert said the rules on SNI toys will still be reviewed comprehensively. He said all these rules are still based on Regulation of the Minister of Industry No. 55/M-IND/PER/11/2013 on the Amendment to Regulation of Minister of Industry Number 24/M-IND/PER/4/2013 concerning on SNI Toys. “The Minister of Industry regulation as a whole has not changed, just a more detailed explanation of one article earlier,” he said.
