NEC eyes collaboration opportunities with Myanmar
Japan IT services provider Nippon Electric Company (NEC), is eyeing projects providing technological solutions for public safety and security in Myanmar in collaboration with the Union government and the private sector.
Myanmar is among the ASEAN countries NEC is prioritising in terms of investment, Ms. Noriko Morimura, marketing assistant manager at NEC, told The Myanmar Times.
“We have been trying to cooperate with Myanmar to provide solutions for public safety and security, but have not made much progress so far,” said Ms. Noriko.
“We are waiting to work with the government and in the meantime looking to collaborate with the private sector as well,” she added.
NEC specialises in technological solutions that enhance public safety and security such as face recognition, character recognition and walkthrough identification. The company supplies over 700 systems to more than 70 countries worldwide.
Last year, NEC also conducted a Cyber Defence Exercise for Myanmar government officials. “Now, we want to work with Myanmar to provide new and better solutions that will improve public safety and security by speeding up the response time to crimes as well as preventing them from taking place,” Ms Noriko said.
Myanmar and other ASEAN countries are the main focus areas for NEC currently as the region holds strong potential for growth on the back of rising populations, market access and tourist interest.
Among the ASEAN countries, NEC has so far supplied public safety and security solutions tailored to the needs of Singapore. It is now keen to work with other governments in the region to meet each country’s unique safety and security needs.
