Indonesia: 75 Percent of Investment Target Achieved: BKPM

TEMPO.COJakarta – The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) has reported that that Indonesia saw Rp513.2 trillion investment throughout January to September. BKPM chief Thomas Lembong said that the figure is 75 percent of the full year target.

As such, Thomas is confident that the target will be achieved in the next three months. He added that in the third quarter investment realization increased by 13.7 percent on a year-on-year basis or Rp176.6 trillion. “Mr. President is striving for an economic transformation: from consumption to production, from consumption to investment; and I believe it is running well,” he said in his office yesterday.

Domestic investment and foreign direct investment in Q3 stand at Rp64.9 trillion and Rp111.7 trillion, respectively. Domestic and foreign direct investment realization increased by 16.8 percent and 12 percent, respectively. Electricity, gas and water contributed the most with Rp22.1 trillion or 12.5 percent of the realized figure. Other sectors are housing at 11.3 percent, metal industry at 10,7 percent, mining at 10.3 percent and pharmaceutical at 9.2 percent.

BKPM Investment Control Division Deputy Azhar Lubis added that Singapore was the largest investor throughout January to September with US$6.1 billion investment or 25.6 percent, followed by Japan with US$4 billion or 16.8 percent and China with US$2.7 billion or 11.5 percent of total foreign direct investment.

Singapore was also the biggest investor in Q3 with US$2.5 billion investment, followed by Japan at US$1.1 billion, China at US$0.8 billion, the U.S. at US$0.6 billion and South Korea at US$0.4 billion.
