Laos: Cabinet Approves Highway ‘K Corridor’ Development Project

(KPL) Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and his cabinet members approved at their monthly meeting on Tuesday the development of the 113.7-km section I of the Vientiane-Boten expressway (K Corridor).

The section I of the highway project will stretch between Vientiane Capital and Vientiane Province (Vangvieng).

The development of the highway section is expected to cost around US$1.4 billion, Government Spokesman Chaleun Yiapaoher told media at a press briefing held immediately after the meeting.

Chaired by Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, the two-day meeting witnessed the discussion of eight key issues including draft amendments to Presidential Decree on Fees and Charges No 003, a draft national blood donation action plan 2016-2020, blood donation strategy 2016-2025 and vision 2030, a draft decree on the training and development of civil servants and officials, a draft decree on the evaluation of performance of civil servants and employees, a draft decree on Labour Skills Development Fund, a report on the monitoring and promotion of the implementation of resolution, decrees, and orders of the government and directive guidance of the Prime Minister, and a Draft Decree on Fuel Businesses.

The government has urged relevant sectors to adjust their draft documents according to the recommendations made by the cabinet members and to attach greater importance to their guidance of relevant contractors to ensure the design and budget calculation of the project is precise and realistic.
