Cambodia: Foodpanda continues national expansion with move into Kampong Speu
Singaporean food delivery giant Foodpanda has announced its expansion into Kampong Speu province. This marks the 11th Cambodian province in which the company has a presence.
Food delivery apps have seen a boom in sales since the Feb 20 community outbreak of Covid-19 and the ensuing lockdown that followed, with major delivery companies stating that sales had doubled during the period.
Having food delivered has been heavily promoted as a way to help curtail the spread of the Coronavirus throughout the country by helping people to avoid unnecessary travel, as well as reducing people-to-people contacts via cashless payment systems.
Foodpanda is one of the most successful and popular food delivery companies in Asia and is the most downloaded delivery application in Cambodia for both Apple’s IOS and Google’s Android according to similarweb, a website that tracks downloads by country.
The company first entered the Cambodian market in 2019. It launched in Phnom Penh before expanding to Siem Reap, Battambang, Kampong Cham, Kampot, Kampong Thom, Kampong Som, Poipet, Banteay Meanchey, Pursat province, and now Kampong Speu province.
Before starting operations in Kampong Speu, foodpanda had previously been active there via charitable efforts donating disinfectant alcohol, masks and water to the Kampong Speu Provincial Hall.
The company will initially be offering 50 percent discounts of food deliveries to new customers in the province on all orders above $3.
With food and grocery delivery demand increasing, a company spokesperson said that foodpanda will be expanding its footprint to more cities and grow its “foodpanda shops” vertical by working with more partners to offer additional daily essentials and groceries on its platform.
