Abu Dhabi prince wants to invest in Indonesian island with ‘cool air, nice beaches’: Minister
A senior Indonesian minister has offered Mori territory in Central Sulawesi province as a potential investment for Emirate of Abu Dhabi crown prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed.
“The crown prince asked for an island with cool air and nice beaches. He really wants to invest there. We offered Mori land,” said Coordinating Maritime and Investment Minister Luhut Pandjaitan on Monday as reported by antaranews.com.
Minister Luhut neither specified the land’s location – Central Sulawesi has a Mori Atas and North Mori district, both of which are landlocked – nor did he specify what the prince wanted to invest in. The phrase “Mori land” hints at the province’s native Mori inhabitants.
Both Mori districts are located in North Morowali regency, whose biggest industries are agriculture, mining and construction. The industries respectively contributed 34.2, 26.4 and 20.7 percent to the regency’s Rp 9.17 trillion ($672.1 million) economy in 2017.
Luhut was one of several ministers who accompanied President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to Abu Dhabi, UAE, for a two-day official visit that ended Monday. The visit’s purpose was attracting more Middle Eastern investment to Indonesia.
During the visit, Indonesian companies secured US$6.8 billion from UAE investors for 11 business projects, most of which relate to the energy sector. The investment represents one-third of the total $22.8 billion needed to finance the projects.
Jokowi has also asked Bin Zayed to join the steering committee of Indonesia’s planned new capital city, Luhut said. The crown prince’s position has not been determined yet.
