Vietnam, Laos boost industry, energy cooperation

NDO – The Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade in coordination with the Laos Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the Laos Ministry of Energy and Mines held a conference on the bilateral development of the industry, energy and mine sectors, in Da Nang, on October 1.

The event is part of the activities to mark the 55th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Laos and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the bilateral Treaty on Amity and Cooperation between the two countries.

The conference was co-chaired by the Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh, Lao Minister of Industry and Commerce Khemmani Pholsena, and Lao Minister of Energy and Mines Khammany Inthirath.

The three ministers reviewed their bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade, industry, energy and mining over the past few years.

They also agreed on several measures needed to promote bilateral trade and to revise a number of provisions in the border trade agreement between Vietnam and Laos.

Bilateral trade between Vietnam and Laos has seen positive changes, particularly in trade activities at border areas, with the bilateral trade volume through the Cau Treo border gate in Ha Tinh province increasing by 33% this year.

The two sides have also continued to promote the negotiations and signing of agreements on bonded warehouses, the pipeline project from Vietnam’s Hon La Port to Laos’ Khammouan province, the My Ly-Nam Mo hydropower plant and the building of the 500 KV super high voltage line to import electricity into Vietnam, among others.

Leaders of the three ministries also reached a consensus on coordination regulations and the reduction of business conditions to facilitate the circulation of goods across the border.
