Thailand: Nov 11 sales see huge success
While Alibaba Group announced gross merchandise volume of 213.5 billion yuan (1.07 trillion baht) generated on Nov 11 worldwide this year, an increase of 27% from 2017, Lazada, its e-commerce subsidiary in Southeast Asia, recorded more than 20 million shoppers for the 11.11 sale.
LinkedIn Lazada Group reported the festival had over 20 million shoppers browsing, grabbing 50 million deals and bargains during the 24-hour shopping spree.
Shopee, the e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, announced the region recorded over 11 million orders on Nov 11, around 4.5 times that of 2017.
Total visits hit over 42 million as shoppers snapped up deals across all categories. At its peak, over 58,000 items were sold in a single minute.
Terence Pang, chief operating officer of Shopee, said the Shopee 11.11 Big Sale was well-received by users.
Year-on-year growth of Shopee’s 11.11 performance proves the gimmick will continue to be an integral part of the year-end shopping season in the region, he said.
This year’s Shopee 11.11 Big Sale in Thailand featured non-stop promotions at up to 90% off; the launch of the brand new in-app game, Shopee Quiz; and exclusive deals from Shopee’s brand and strategic partners.
On Nov 11, top participating brands and sellers enjoyed up to 1,909 times their average daily orders and an average of more than 800% increase in traffic. Health and beauty, home and living and mobile and gadgets emerged as the top three categories.
In line with the growth of mobile commerce in the region, Shopee’s mobile-first strategy continued to be a key success factor for this year’s Shopee 11.11 Big Sale in Thailand, with over 95% of orders made via the app.
aCommerce Group, an e-commerce enabler, sees an increase of 300% in sales for its 250 customers in Southeast Asia during this year’s 11.11, the record for clients across the four markets (Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines) that participated in the mega-online sales. The company is optimistic that the number will keep increasing every year.
