Philippine Airlines to add one more Cambodia flight in December

Philippine Airlines will have one additional  flight next month to cater to Filipino expats who want to spend the holiday season with their loved ones in the Philippines.

PAL announced earlier that it will resume its direct flights to Phnom Penh starting next month. But only one flight was listed for the entire December.

But PAL has now decided to add another flight in light of the approaching Christmas season. It is a tradition among Filipino families to gather together for the holiday season, especially on Christmas and New Year. Family members living abroad usually go back home to join these celebrations.

“We want them to have the opportunity to be with their families on Christmas,” a source from PAL said.

Like many expats, a majority of Filipinos residing in Cambodia have not been able to return to the Philippines for vacations for nearly two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

There are more than 7,000 Filipinos, many of them in high-level executive positions, working and residing in the Kingdom, according to the Philippine Embassy here.

In addition to the single December flight announced earlier, PAL will also have a Phnom Penh-bound flight on December 17. The flight will depart Manila at 10:05pm. It flies out of the Phnom Penh International Airport the following day at 12:45am, according to the PAL announcement.

The original December flight will depart Manila on Dec 3, at 10:05pm. It will fly back to Manila from Phnom Penh the next day, at 12:45am.

The frequency of PAL flights to Cambodia will increase early next year. Starting January, PAL will fly once a week to and from Phnom Penh. The flight will depart Manila every Friday, at 10:05pm. It will depart from Phnom Penh every Saturday, at 12:45am.

The Manila-Phnom Penh air route will continue to be serviced by an Airbus A320 jet.

PAL flew several repatriation flights from Cambodia to the Philippines at the height of the pandemic. The flights brought home more than a thousand distressed Filipinos who were affected by the pandemic.

PAL was flying to Phnom Penh five times a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday) before the pandemic struck.

PAL launched its inaugural direct flight to Phnom Penh two years ago.
