Laos, Vietnam vow to enhance cooperation

The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Laos and Vietnam have vowed to enhance their coordination mechanisms in order to increase the effectiveness of cooperation.
The vow was made at a meeting between high level officials from the two ministries in Vientiane yesterday, with Lao Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms Khamphao Eunthavanh and her Vietnamese counterpart Mr Dang Dinh Quy leading the meeting.
The meeting is one initiative to help mark Laos-Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship Year 2017 and to highlight the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Laos-Vietnam Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation.
At the meeting, the two sides shared several issues on enhancing cooperation mechanisms between both ministries as they are counsellors to the leaders of the two countries, to actively promote cooperative bilateral relations. The deputy ministers reviewed the translation and implementation of outcomes from the visits of high level leaders, joint declarations and high-level agreements, especially the outcomes of the 39th Meeting of the Joint Committee and Cooperation Treaty between the two governments, as well as implementation of the cooperation plan between the two ministries.
Cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Laos and Vietnam has persistently been enhanced based on camaraderie and brotherly solidarity, referring to the cooperation agreement between the two ministries for the period from 2014 to 2020, the first political consultation at deputy minister level held on July 2015 in Hanoi, Vietnam, and the Third Ministerial Political Consultation held in late last year, according to a document released from the meeting.
At yesterday’s meeting, the officials reviewed the contribution of the two ministries to coordinating with line ministries and other related sectors at central and local levels in promoting, inspecting, and overseeing the implementation of agreements reached by leaders from the two parties and governments that aimed at expanding the traditional friendship ties, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries in all sectors in order to bring benefit to both nations.
The Foreign Ministry of Laos and the Foreign Ministry of Vietnam, on behalf of the National Guiding Committees’ Permanent Secretariats, as focal points for joint activities to celebrate significant anniversaries this friendship year, have to strengthen their coordination to organise joint activities in both countries.
At the meeting, the two sides also exchanged views on current regional and international issues of mutual interest.
