Laos Imports Over 80,000 Vehicles in 2022
The President of the Lao Automotive Industry Association informed the public in a meeting on 5 June that Laos imported 80,708 vehicles including cars, motorbikes, and EVs in 2022.
President of the Lao Automotive Industry Association Pasatxay Philaphandeth said that of the 80,708 vehicles imported, 21,887 of them were internal combustion engine cars that use fuel to operate and 1,408 of them were electric vehicles (EVs). Of the total, 58,893 were motorcycles.
As for the first four months of 2023, 6,884 combustion engine cars were imported, while EVs and motorcycles import figures stood at 17,796 and 526 respectively.
The Lao Automotive Industry Association brings together businesses that import all types of vehicles, spare parts, and production equipment.
Currently, the association consists of 34 member companies, including 25 brand distributors, six vehicles and heavy machinery parts distributors, three representative offices, and data research companies.
The association has also previously worked with the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, to develop workforce training programs to improve national standards for automotive repairs and further develop the automotive industry in Laos.
