Laos, Cambodia development bodies eye future cooperation
Representatives of the Lao Front for National Development (LFND) and the National Council for Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodia Motherland (SFDCM) met in Vientiane yesterday to discuss future cooperation.
The Cambodian delegation is visiting Vientiane from February 3-7 to further strengthen relations between the two national development bodies.
During his five-day visit to Laos, Vice President and Secretary General of the National Council for SFDCM, Mr Nhem Valy, and his delegation yesterday met with the President of the Lao Front for National Development, Dr Xaysomphone Phomvihane.
At the meeting, the two sides reviewed their cooperation agreement for 2012-2016 and discussed the draft of an agreement expected to be signed for cooperation in 2018-2020.
The 2018-2020 agreement includes furthering the longstanding solidarity and friendship between the peoples of the two nations, further information exchanges, and increasing exchanges and high-level delegation visits for experience sharing.
Cooperation should focus on shared operations between the two organisations particularly along their shared border, supporting each other in socio-economic and infrastructure development, tackling the impacts of natural disasters, as well as creating a border of peace, friendship, stability, cooperation and development. The two sides also suggested they hold meetings twice a year.
Speaking at the meeting, LFND Vice President Mr Khambay Damlath said Laos and Cambodia had a long tradition of solidarity and reciprocal visits by official delegations at various levels. The peoples of the provinces that shared borders also shared activities such as traditional festivals.
It was suggested that the two organisations carry out more educational campaigns to help people from all walks of life better understand the traditional solidarity and collaboration between the two nations.
According to the LFND, the main and long-term strategy is to strengthen the Party’s mission and upgrade the role of the LFND and other mass organisations to meet the needs of current circumstances.
The LFND’s vision also calls for continuing cooperation with organisations and related counterparts from strategic neighbouring countries through reciprocal visits of delegations, meetings, and sharing technical knowledge from the central to local levels.
