Speaking in a press conference Friday, Indonesian Ambassador Sudirman Haseng said the upcoming trade fair will “boost economic cooperation” between Indonesia and Cambodia.

“It will be the first Indonesia-themed trade exhibition in Siem Reap,” he said. “We will be introducing Cambodians to quality products from Indonesia.”

“The exhibition provides an excellent opportunity for Cambodian and Indonesian companies to meet and cooperate,” he said.

The three-day event will showcase products from both countries. It will also feature performances by Cambodian and Indonesian artists.

The event is expected to be attended by at least 60 exhibitors from Indonesia and 40 from Cambodia. Organisers expect around 6,000 visitors.

Figures from the embassy show that during the past five years, bilateral trade increased an average of 7.10 percent a year.

In 2018, trade between the two countries exceeded $550 million.

During the first four months of 2019, bilateral trade was valued at $196 million, an increase of 10.4 percent compared to the same period last year.

Ambassador Haseng urged businesses and officials to continue working to enhance trade between the nations.

He said Indonesia will continue to aim for more cooperation with Cambodia, noting that the two countries already signed a double taxation avoidance and fiscal evasion prevention agreement.

The Cambodia-Indonesia Friendship Trade Fair 2019 will be held on July 19-21 in Siem Reap.
