Indonesia: Prepaid SIM Card Registration Period Officially Opens Today

TEMPO.COJakarta – The registration period for prepaid SIM cards has officially commenced today on Tuesday, October 31.

According to Noor Iza, the acting head of Communication and Informatics Ministry’s public relations, prepaid SIM card users must register their ID Number (NIK) and family ID (KK) number. The registration period starts today, Oct. 31, and will end on February 28, 2018.

Up to Monday, nine million cards have registered and validated by the ministry. The registration process applies to both new and old prepaid SIM card users.

The Indonesian government provided three ways to register, starting from manually registering at official operator service outlets or registering through the operator’s website. The third method is by registering via SMS to 4444 through certain formats depending on the telecommunication provider.

SIM card number users who fail to register before the deadline on February 28, 2018, will have their mobile number blocked and can no longer make calls and send text messages.

However, the users will have additional 15 days registration period after the deadline. If the users fail to register within the 15-day period, their SIM cards’ entire feature will be disabled.
