Indonesia: Jakarta retailer Sarinah to go online

Jakarta’s city-owned retailer Sarinah department store is set to go online this month as part of an effort to collect Rp 500 billion (US$36.9 million) in revenue next year.

The decision came after Sarinah was named the official retailer for 2018 Asian Games merchandise.

Sarinah president director GNP Sugiarta Yasa expressed his optimism that the retailer would be able to achieve the target.

“We’re very sure that our sales will grow more than 20 percent in the upcoming years,” he said on Sunday as reported by kontan.co.id.

He added that Sarinah had collected around Rp 400 billion in revenue as of November, and still expected to collect another Rp 40 billion by year-end.

Initially, Sarinah planned to go online in August, but the move was postponed to Dec. 22 for several reasons.

Sarinah is also planning to offer customers a mobile application in 2018.

In constructing its online infrastructure, the company cooperated with state-owned technology firms and received support from private e-commerce Lazada, said Sarinah retail director Lies Permana Lestari.

Sugiarta said Sarinah spent Rp 150 million on constructing its online infrastructure and to introduce the digital platform.

The retailer has targeted to collect 30 percent of its sales from the new online platform, and the remainder from in-store transactions. (sha/bbn)
