Google Wallet Launches in Thailand and Vietnam
Google Wallet is a digital wallet that allows one to securely store credit and debit cards, tickets, passes, keys, and IDs. It was launched in 12 countries including Thailand and Vietnam on Wednesday.
At the moment 57 countries have access to this application and the new additions include Armenia, Cyprus, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Slovenia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Google Wallet Vice President and General Manager Jenny Cheng said, “When we launched Google Wallet earlier this year, we wanted to give as many people as possible access to a secure digital wallet. So today we’re bringing it to 12 more countries, making Wallet available in 57 countries total.”
Google Wallet can be downloaded on the Play Store app on Android devices and after syncing one’s visa or MasterCard and verifying if needed, it would allow for cashless and contactless payments from smartphones or smartwatches. Google Wallet can be used in major food outlets like 7-Eleven, McDonald’s etc., to book travel tickets, use loyalty cards, and just about anywhere that accepts Google Pay as a form of payment.
Chen Way Siew, Google Wallet Partnerships Lead of Google Asia Pacific said, “Google Wallet is easy to use as you don’t need to transfer money into the app. It acts as a digital container that holds digital versions of physical items found in an actual wallet, such as payment cards.”
Currently, only cards by Bangkok Bank and Krungthai Bank are accepted by Google Wallet in Thailand. In Vietnam, ACB, Sacombank, Shinhan Bank, TP Bank, Techcombank (credit card only), Vietcombank, and VPBank users can start using Google Wallet for hassle-free digital payments.
