Cambodia mulls attracting co-investment in cold chain development

Cambodia expressed its intentions to attract co-investment in cold chain development during the 19th ASEAN-Japan experts group meeting on logistics (AJEGML) on Tuesday.

Chhieng Pich, Head of the General Department of Logistics, led the ministry officials during the video meeting at the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (MPWT) office with the ASEAN secretariat, logistics experts from this association and Japan.

The meeting aimed at enhancing the cold chain logistics projects, logistics capacity building, green logistics project, and green logistics action plan.

There was also a presentation of the progress of the Cold Chain Guidelines and the result in a report of the fourth Green Logistics Partnership Conference organized by the MPWT last November, according to a press release.

“All officials should pay attention in order to gain logistic knowledge from all ASEAN countries. It will be the strategic knowledge to attract international experts to conduct more research and lead to cold chain co-investment projects in the country,” Pich said.

On the fourth Green Logistics Partnership conference, Pich said, “Participants took part in the discussion, exchanged experiences, shared good implementation practices, and offered inputs to the Green Logistics Partnership that would contribute to lowering negative impacts on the environment. It will increase productivity and solve problems in society.

“Participants had a sufficient understanding of the Green Logistics activities. The master plan of the comprehensive logistics policy of Japan offered a clear and specified map for better transportation and a more productive supply chain. The improvement in production would reduce the greenhouse gas emissions and solve problems.”

Green Logistics played an important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Thus, the MPWT and the private sector should collaborate to solve this issue with high responsibility and efficiency, the press release stated.

Robert Yab, chairman of YCH Group, told Khmer Times, “Cambodia is one of the strongest countries in ASEAN in terms of economic growth and also part of the agenda regarding connectivity. I feel Cambodia has a lot of potential in connecting to and becoming part of the global value chain. I feel Cambodia’s economic growth will move even faster. The logistics sector can support, sustain and enhance that growth.”
