Cambodia, Indonesia to boost trade, investment, tourism ties

Cambodia and Indonesia have discussed further cooperation in trade, investment and tourism by promoting the export of Cambodian agricultural products to the Indonesian market.

The commitment was made in a meeting in Jakarta on March 20 between Minister of Commerce Pan Sorasak and Indonesian former Minister of Commerce Enggartiasto Lukita.

The talks mainly focused on promoting bilateral trade, investment and tourism between Cambodia and Indonesia.

In the meeting, Sorasak urged the Indonesian side to import agricultural products from Cambodia such as rice, cassava, cashew nuts and mangoes, which are potential products that Cambodia has been pushing for exports.

He also urged Indonesian investors to consider investing in agriculture, such as setting up rice mills, processing cassava into medicinal products and packaging for domestic use, and exporting mangoes and fruits.

“Cambodia asks for a direct flight between the two countries to facilitate the flow of investors, businessmen and tourists,” Sorasak said.

Noted that Cambodia has developed a strong and resilient economy, Indonesia expressed its intention to strengthen cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce to boost bilateral trade, investment and tourism flows between the two countries.
