Cambodia: Commerce Ministry addresses exports, fees

Commerce Minister Pan Sorasak said yesterday the government will take action to boost the export of processed products and facilitate trade in the kingdom.

He made the comments at a working group meeting with Van Sou Ieng, president of the Garment Manufacturers Association in Cambodia (GMAC).

“The ministry will review and revise its procedures on the Certificate of Origin [CO] automation system in every step to ensure a complete framework of the 48-hour limit and draw confidence from the private sector,” the ministry said in a press release.

“Meanwhile, the ministry is launching training for all agents running for the right to complete forms to request COs from the ministry.”

Officials at the Commerce Ministry plan to keep inspecting COs for goods transported across any of Cambodia’s borders because it is part of the implementation of the rules or origin, designed to prevent fraud originating in a third country. The initiative was praised by the European Union, the ministry said.
