Cambodia: 9th Sea Festival begins today

Over 130 international delegates from 21 countries have registered to participate in the 9th Sea Festival and the 2022 World Congress of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club (World-Bays Club) to be held from 9th-11th December 2022 in Sihanoukville, said a release by the Ministry of Tourism (MoT).

The figure was presented during a discussion meeting on Wednesday regarding the preparation of the two main tourism events. The meeting was presided over online by Minister of Tourism Thong Khon and attended virtually by Tith Chantha, Secretary of State of MoT and Kouch Chamroeun, Governor of Preah Sihanouk Province.

Chouk Chamnor, Director of Tourism Product Promotion Department of MoT, said the figure was updated on Wednesday and the delegates represent 34 bays of the 21 countries around the world including Cambodia—the host, Vietnam, China, Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Israel, Turkey, France, Spain, Portugal, Canada, Brazil, Martinique, Morocco, Senegal, and Angola.

“There are a lot of international delegates coming to participate in the event like that because they have seen that our country has controlled the pandemic very effectively,” said Chamnor, adding that the events will also be attended by three observing bay delegates from Malaysia, Finland and Papua New Guinea.

Chamnor added that these international delegates will also visit other tourism destinations in Phnom Penh and Preah Sihanouk province such as beaches, islands, ecotourism attractions, Peam Krosaob Natural resort Mangrove forest in Koh Kong province along with many other activities.

Khon said coastal provinces are the most suitable destinations to receive tourists in this season as Cambodia has arranged attractions of the cities, beaches, infrastructure, expressway and tourism services that are ready to welcome those tourists. He added that the link of the annual bay congress to the Sea Festival in Preah Sihanouk province is very special to show tourism products to local and international guests.

“It is because the club has a lot of members as beaches and media networks and it is an agency that would be able to promote our tourism products to tourists effectively and attract them to visit our country more and more. So, these are very important events for us to promote our tourism industry as a whole,” said Khon.

Provincial Governor Chamroeun said officials at all level of the province will provide very close cooperation in organising the Sea Festival and the World-Bays Club Congress. “We have done most preparations to assure safety for the leaders, delegates, people and tourists who will enjoy these two big events,” said Chamroeun.
