Vietnam imposes anti-dumping tariffs on welding materials from three nations

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has decided to impose anti-dumping tariffs of 11.43% to 36.56% on several welding materials originating in Malaysia, Thailand and China.

The items subject to the tariffs consist of stainless steel 308 welding rods with powder coating with HS codes and solid coreless welding wires with HS codes, according to the Trade Remedies Authority under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The tariffs will take effect from August 20, 2022, and last for five years.

According to the Government news website (baochinhphu.vn), at the request of local producers, since March 2021, the Ministry of Trade and Industry has carried out investigations into welding materials originating from Malaysia, Thailand and China.

The result revealed a remarkable increase in goods originating in the three markets had caused serious injury to local production.

Currently, the capacity of local production for stainless steel welding rods and welding wires is 6,000 tons and 66,000 tons, respectively, which sufficiently satisfies the local demand.

The welding material sector is a supporting industry that is being encouraged and prioritized under Resolution 115 of the Government on solutions to promote the development of supporting industries.
