Thailand: Employers seeking ‘soft skills’

Online jobs portal JobThai has suggested nine different “soft skills”, such as time management and emotional intelligence, that can help workers land a job in a competitive market.
Unlike “hard skills” such as programming, soft skills pertain more to personality, social interactions and the ability to learn.
Saengduen Tangthamsatit, co-founder and chief operating officer of JobThai, has given advice on which soft skills are needed for 2019.
She said time management, lifelong learning, emotional intelligence, adaptability, collaboration, communication, complex problem solving and critical thinking are all necessary for workers of the future.
Time management keeps employees on top of projects, but it can be a tough skill to learn in an age of distractions. Emotional intelligence keeps employee interactions running smoothly when workers are able to control their feelings and respond to situations appropriately.
Employees must be adaptable to changes in the workplace, especially considering the rapid pace of technological change, while also being well versed in working with others to achieve common goals.
Communication skills are essential in any workplace for meetings, presentations and day-to-day interactions with colleagues and management. Complex problem solving helps employees get a leg up on the competition by using data collection and analysis to handle unique problems in unique ways.
Critical thinking and creativity are what helps a modern employee rise up the ranks, when their analysis and insights differ and exceed the quality of their peers’.
