Ride-hailing firm eyes Cambodia
Aiming to disrupt the thriving local ride-hailing market with a new business model, Belarus-based Onde recently announced its intention to enter Cambodia.
In an interview with Khmer Times, a representative of the startup said they provide the software entrepreneurs need to run their own taxi company.
Onde’s software is already used by more than 200 taxi companies around the world, according to Eugene Suslo, the company’s CEO and co-founder.
“If you want to run your own taxi company, Onde will develop a white-label user-app, fleet and payment management software for you,” Mr Suslo said.
“We help you customise everything: brand, logo, etc,” he said, pointing out that the set-up fee is a minimum of $7,000.
“The company earns only when you earn, meaning that monthly payment fee correlates to what is earned by you,” he added.
He said Onde’s software allows entrepreneurs to focus on just running their companies, freeing them from dealing with the technical and technological aspects of the platform.
The ride-hailing app market is growing fast in the Kingdom and presents plenty of opportunities, Mr Suslo pointed out.
“Cambodia is an interesting market where we see a lot of potential from young tech-savvy users and entrepreneurs who want to become independent and run their own businesses.
“Taxi and transportation companies are booming in the region, which is a sign of the growing economy. We are here to aid this development,” he added.
Singapore-based Grab is one of the main players in the local ride-hailing market, together with Cambodian-owned Passapp Technologies.
Grab is now poised to enter into the food delivery and courier sectors in Cambodia, a strategy that puts it in a powerful position to monopolise the market
Passapp, which has roughly the same number of drivers as Grab (around 10,000), is also launching food delivery and e-payment services.
