Philippines: Lazada constantly investing to serve customers better
MANILA, Philippines — Lazada Philippines is constantly investing in its operations in the country, particularly in areas such as logistics, to improve customer experience.
In an interview with reporters, Lazada chief executive officer Carlos Barrera said the company is constantly making investments, citing logistics as one area of concentration to be able to serve its customers better.
“The main reason why we are now able to serve customers within two days in the metro or even three days in many places, is because we have that last mile very, very well developed with a lot of micro last mile hubs nationwide,” Barrera said.
Barrera cited the Philippines as one of Lazada’s fastest growing and priority markets.
“When you look at the development of e-commerce over the last two years, the reality is that some of the other markets have already reached very high penetration rate. But the Philippines is still one of the markets with slightly lower penetration rate, being a country that has more than 7,000 islands, very diverse and a lot of logistics challenges,” Barrera said.
Meanwhile, asked about the impact of the weaker Philippine currency and the high inflation globally, Barrera said the brands housed by Lazada on its platform continue to give competitive prices.
“We’re very lucky because we have a strong supply chain. We have hundreds of thousands of local businesses, and we have the biggest international brands. So the reality is that brands continue to give very good prices, in many cases pricing even better than what they will do anywhere,” Barrera said.
“So, we are in a way inflation proof because we continue to innovate and to invest in this market through vouchers, through better pricing, together with our brands and sellers,” he added.
Lazada cited results of a recent study that followed the shopper’s journey from discovery to delivery, which showed that more than half or 57 percent of Southeast Asian consumers now use e-commerce marketplaces as search engines to find what they want.
The e-commerce platform said this means that tools offered by digital platforms for brands and businesses are critical in building sustainable models for the ecosystem, and the reason for Lazada to improve solutions to support its sellers and partners.
