The deadline for submissions of prequalification applications was November 13, and the ministry has announced the companies or consortiums that submitted applications for the project.

The companies/ consortiums are VINCI Highways from France,  Team Korea Consortium, China Communications Construction Company, JFEE/Marubeni Consortium from Japan, BSSIC Consortium from Thailand, Japan and Myanmar,

CRIG-CDL Consortium from China,  Shanghai Pengxin Group Consortium from China and Myanmar,  Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation of the Philippines, China Gezhouba Group/ Great Genesis Gems Co Ltd Consortium from China,  ITD – CSI JV from Thailand and China, Denso – CSCEC Consortium from China and Myanmar, and Power Construction Corporation of China from China.

The ministry will evaluate the  12 applications according to the criteria and requirements in the Request for Qualification (RGQ) and announce the list of prequalified bidders by the end of this mont, a ministry official said.

In May, the ministry invited the private sector to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) to participate for the construction of Yangon Elevated Expressway Project under a public -private partnership .

The plan calls for the building of  47.5 kilometre four lane elevated road to connect downtown Yangon, Yangon Port, Yangon International Airport, Mingalardon Industrial Park and Yangon – Mandalay Expressway. The aim of the project is to alleviate traffic congestion in Yangon,

In July, the ministry announced that 53 local and international companies/consortiums had expressed  interested in the project.

In September, the ministry invited interested parties to pre-qualify to undertake the design, engineering, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the first phase of an elevated four lane expressway of approximately 27 kilometres.

The whole project is expected to take three years to complete.
