Malaysian firm to manage Sihanoukville resort

Malaysian-based WA Hospitality has been awarded a contract to manage Won Majestic Casino Hotel & Resort Cambodia, an upscale property in Sihanoukville now under construction.

This is the first overseas management contract won by WA Hospitality, which was established in 2015 as a subsidiary company of UK’s World Avenues, according to TTG Asia.

Won Majestic Casino Hotel & Resort is expected to open during the first quarter of 2021. The property is located opposite the renowned Sokha Beach Resort.

WA Hospitality’s executive director, Ally Bhoonee, told TTG Asia that it is not your typical casino hotel as this one will be right next to the beach and it will be an upscale, five-star property.

“The hotel concept is to provide entertainment and excellent personalised service. Based on projections, the property is looking at an 80 percent occupancy in the first year of operations.

“We are targeting upmarket FITs from China and Southeast Asia,” Mr Bhoonee said.

Preah Sihanoukville tourism director Taing Sochet Krisna told Khmer Times that Won Majestic Casino Hotel & Resort will be a welcomed addition to the city’s hospitality sector.

“The provincial tourism department supports the project which will help meet increasing demand from tourists,” Mr Sochet Krisna said.

Mr Sochetkrisna did not know the star rating of the upcoming resort.

Cambodia’s tourism sector earned $4.3 billion in revenue last year, an increase of around 20 percent, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Tourism.
