Indonesian Economy Unaffected by Jakarta Election, Minister Says
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution said that the national economy will not be affected by the Jakarta Gubernatorial Election.
“[The economy] is running just fine. Export is good, import is good,” Darmin said at his office in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 18, 2017.
The second round in Jakarta election between Basuki Tjahaja Purnama-Djarot Saiful Hidayat pair and Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno is held today, April 19, 2017.
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia posted a trade surplus of USD 1.23 billion in March 2017, driven by non-oil and gas surplus of USD 2.02 billion.
Export volume in March 2017 reached USD 14.59 billion while import volume was recorded at USD 13.36 billion.
In overall, Indonesia netted USD 3.93 billion in trade surplus between January and March 2017. The country posted USD 40.61 billion in export revenue in the period and USD 36.68 billion in import revenue.
Meanwhile, Industry Minister Airlangga Hartanto said that Jakarta election runoff has no bearing on national industries.
