Cambodia: Employment by Royal Group PPSEZ soars by 86%

The number of employment of Cambodian workers at 102 companies in the Royal Group Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (Royal Group PPSEZ) has increased to 40,026 compared to 21,585 in 2019, 26,444 in 2020 and 34,179 in 2021 despite businesses got suffered due to the Covid-19 pandemic and lay off some of their employees, according to a statement recently released by Royal Group PPSEZ.

Uematsu Hiroshi, CEO of Royal Group PPSEZ, said the number of employees has increased by 85.43 percent compared to the number of workers before the spread of Covid-19, according to the release, adding that those people work 41.91 percent in the garment and textile sector, 23.69 percent in electronics and electrical sector, 15.48 percent in automobile parts sector and 6.45 percent in diamond polishing sector.

“The overall number of workers in Royal Group Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone keeps increasing even during the pandemic. This increase would not have been possible without the effective and strategical leadership of the Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, to keep COVID-19 under control,” said Neak Oknha KITH Meng, Chairman of Royal Group PPSEZ.

“With political and social stability, plus continuous support from the Royal Government of Cambodia, a business-friendly environment for investors has been created, and we are committed to keeping providing our best services to all investors, which will, in turn, create more job opportunities for Cambodian people. This is what we are proud of as a zone developer and what we call our biggest achievement,” the release pointed out.

Royal Group PPSEZ also runs an independent power plant with 11MW per hour by establishing Colben Energy (Cambodia) PPSEZ with a Singaporean company and Bok Seng PPSEZ Dry Port Ltd for Logistics Center in order to facilitate import and export transactions of our customers.

The publicly listed Royal Group PPSEZ of the conglomerate Royal Group gained a loss after tax of about $126,700 in the second quarter of this year, approximately 86.23 percent lower compared to over $0.9 million in the same period of last year.

Royal Group plans to develop its major infrastructure and facilities works at the Royal Group Poipet Special Economic Zone that will cover an area of approximately 20.67 ha whereby about 15.89 ha are allocated to accommodate a total of twenty-eight factory lots with sizes ranging from about 0.38 ha to 0.80 ha each and the rest of the area are designed for infrastructure and service area.
