Brunei: On track to reach BND1 billion

The agriculture and fishery sectors are seeing growth with production increasing from BND781.26 million in 2021 to BND857 million last year. It is on track to reach BND1 billion in the next few years.

This was revealed by Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin at the 19th Legislative Council (LegCo) session yesterday.

This was in response to LegCo member Yang Berhormat Zainol bin Mohamed’s query about the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism’s achievements.

The minister added that the Sultanate began exporting agricultural products such as eggs to Singapore from November last year while there are efforts to do the same for other countries.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf said there is an increase of youth participation in agriculture from 137 in 2021 to 162 last year.

The minister also said rice or paddy production rose from one tonne to four to five tonnes in 2022 and is projected to increase to seven to eight tonnes.
