ISEI optimistic of improvement in Indonesia’s economy in 2022

I am optimistic that economic recovery in 2022 would improve, both at the national level and in DKI Jakarta

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Economics Scholars Association (ISEI) is optimistic that Indonesia’s economy will improve in 2022, supported by increased private consumption and export performance as well as maintained government fiscal spending.

“I am optimistic that economic recovery in 2022 would improve, both at the national level and in DKI Jakarta,” ISEI Chairman Perry Warjiyo noted at the ISEI webinar, Friday.

Perry, concurrently the governor of Bank Indonesia, advised ISEI to continue to strengthen its role to build strong synergy between various parties, including academics, businesspersons, and the government in encouraging new sources of economic growth, promoting digitalization, as well as an inclusive and green financial economy.

In addition, ISEI must continue to build the foundation for the Indonesian economy towards an advanced Indonesia, with the characteristics of using a digital, inclusive, and green technology.

“This webinar activity is expected to build optimism for a better 2022, in particular, to continue to encourage the economy of Jakarta as the epicenter of the national economy,” he affirmed.

On the same occasion, Head of the Economic Bureau at the Jakarta Regional Secretariat Mochammad Abbas stated that the economy of DKI Jakarta in 2022 was projected to be better than the previous period.

To continue to encourage economic recovery in DKI Jakarta, he highlighted several strategies for ensuring fulfillment of food requirements, developing MSMEs and the creative economy, moving the real sector, creating jobs while reducing the unemployment rate, and maintaining the investment climate.

In addition, Head of BI Representative of DKI Jakarta Province Onny Widjanarko stated that transportation and trade as well as information and communication technology were attractive sectors that had continued to record increased growth and had the opportunity to continue to encourage the economy of DKI Jakarta.

“The increase in the business sector is in line with the increase in the e-commerce business amid increasing digitization, including that of MSMEs,” he affirmed.

Meanwhile, Chief Economist of Bank BTN, Winang Budoyo, highlighted the need for efforts to create new micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). These efforts were made by collaborating with universities and community organizations in the program for the creation of MSMEs and provision of assistance for new MSMEs and support for MSME financing.
